Luther Eugene Grooms, PGM 1994-1995

Brother Luther E. Grooms was born in Waycross, Georgia, Sept. 21, 1922, son of Luther and Julia Grooms. He started public school in Savannah, Ga. His family moved to Jefferson County, Alabama, in 1929 where he finished his public schooling. He served in the U.S. Army in 1943-44. He was married to Mary Louise Hodges on Sept. 15, 1951. They have two living children, Mrs. Kathy Lay of Warrior, AL, and Mrs. Jeannie White of Mount Olive, AL. They have four grandchildren, Candice and Cory Lay, Kimberly and Jonathan White; one great-grandson, Caleb Boatright (son of Candice).

Bro. Grooms is a Southern Baptist and a member of Beechwood Baptist Church, Mt. Olive for 40 years. He was raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason on August 15, 1952. He is past Master of McCarty Lodge # 735 a couple of times. He served as district lecturer from Group 8 for eleven years. He served as Senior Grand Deacon under Grand Master J. B. Robinson Jr. in 1985.

He was elected Junior Grand Warden in 1991 and progressed through the Grand Line to serve as Grand Master 1994-95. He is a York Rite and Scottish Rite 32° Mason and a member of Zamora Shrine Temple.

He worked in construction as a crane operator until he retired from work in 1982. He is still a member of International Union of Operating Engineers Local 312. He has been a member 55 years.
